My comeback year after 3 years in the wilderness with this old crappy heart condition of mine!
This was the biggest race of the year for me, the Merseyside Wheelers Invitation. I was REALLY scared about this one as all the main contenders in the Time Trial and Road Race scene were invited and I wasn't sure I still "had it" to beat the best as yet.
Sean Yates was flying at the time ... no change there then ... and he was my main challenger. I had, however, trained to my usual "manic" level with Eddie, and I won easily ... BIG RELIEF and I was SO happy to have got it out of the way.
Now I knew I could have a great 1980 ... ( Another Classic TT, organised by Bob Memmery, now sadly off the calendar!)
