Typical Belgium Kermesse weather and roads ... This was at Bugenhout and they were crazy races sometimes and were like "Classics" to the Belgium Kermesse riders.
This is a pic of me in the last 15 Kilometres, getting across to the lone "home town boy breakaway". I had been away in a break all day and we were caught with 20 K's to go.
A guy called Herman Vrijters jumped away immediately and I only realised later that he had "bought" the race in the finale as he lived in Bugenhout and was the "local boy" ... In any case I was going like ten men that day and I countered the attack alone and this pic was taken with me getting over to him.
He immediately sat on me when I caught him and said he was going to win even if we were caught ... So I towed him to the finish and got 2nd place for my troubles, naturally!
BUT I earned some good cash to put some bread on the table for Chris and me, and was ahead of some great riders ... 3rd place, Herman Van Springel, 4th place, Roger Swerts and 5th place, Ferdi Bracke ... All in all a good day's work ...
