Jen Caldicott
Jen came to see Dave in October 2006 and her morale was unbelievably low, with her confidence blitzed from two poor seasons on the road. After a good long pep talk with Dave, Jen got up the very next week with a new attitude to her racing and got her best result of the whole season with a 3rd place.
Dave recognised Jen had a huge talent and could definitely "make it" as an all round bike rider. This was re-inforced at the first track session they did together, where Jen showed she had a lovely pedallling action and is ultra smooth on the bike. She had a much less even climbing pedalling action though, when she went on one of Dave's "winter rides" with his athletes and that was worked on during the winter.
A lot of work was done last winter and Jen took 2007 by storm. It was interupted by her getting married and the very sad death of her father, but Jen was regularly getting top ten finishes and in the Tour of Malta, she was 3rd in the Time Trial, 4th in the last stage and 5th overall. She was 7th in the Bedford 2-Day and 3rd in the Womens series race at Saiton. Plus the main thing she had said to Dave at that first meeting was "I JUST WANT TO WIN A ROAD RACE!", was accomplished when she won a bunch sprint (something she had worked on with Dave on a one to one session) in the Hillingdon Road Race.
So, a great season for Jen, and next year Dave knows she will "raise the bar" again, and can mix in some track racing , where Dave knows she will shine ... Great future for Jen in the sport, FOR SURE!
