FABULOUS START TO SEASON BY DAVE'S ATHLETES !!
Article Published : 21/03/08
IT HASN'T BEEN ALL BAD NEWS TO THE START OF THE 2008 SEASON. ALREADY DAVE'S ATHLETES ARE STOMPING ...
It was unbelievably pleasing for Dave to see just how well a winter's training had had on some of his top athletes when they all came together in Denia at the Training Camp... With the likes of Jez Ponting, Richard Meadows, Simon Thomas, Darren Buckby, Andy Jackson, Brett Hedges and the like absolutely ripping up the hills and flying on the flat.
Great to see Mel Williams rekindle her love of the sport and Jane Kilmartin at her usual aggressive best. Also Wayne Girdlestone, Rich Chapman, Adrian Good, Anthony White and Mark Boyle showing signs of a good winter's training.. The whole thing was just superb for Dave to see where each of his athletes were and just how well they had all come out of a hard winter's training .. Brilliant for Dave to see....
Plus... Dave's athletes have already racked up two great wins ..
Jez Ponting won the Gill Jessop Hilly 14 mile TT on the 13th of February and Andy Jackson won the Pendle Forest Hilly on the 15th of March ... The first of many for all of Dave's "GANG" this year for sure...
GREAT WORK BY ONE AND ALL...
On a personal note, Dave would like to have a few words >>>
I have special thank you to say to Mark Boyle who helped Chris to get me from Liverpool Airport and safely home last Saturday and obviously to my LONG , LONG , LONG suffering wife Chris for just putting up with such a silly old fart for so long !!!
I have been inundated with emails and texts and phone calls from my athletes both present and past wishing me well after one of my worst crashes ever at the Denia Training Camp. Thank you all so much for your concern, it means a great deal to me that you are thinkng about me...
I had my MRI scan results yesterday and although I am still in constant pain with my back, there are no serious injuries to my spine, just old wear and tear. So that should just heal with time. My wrist fracture was slightly more complicated in that the Radius is cracked in two places and even though the Spanish Hospital made a great job of resetting the bones, it could take a while to get that back to normal.
BUT, I am not downhearted and am already doing 15 minutes and up to 1/2 an hour on the Turbo with a very peculiar raised front end with adapted tri bars.. But , you know me.. Can't leave it alone. ... Sleeping is the worst part and sitting behind the Computer. BUT, I will persevere and I WILL BE BACK.. Once again, thanks for all the good wishes, I do really appreciate your kind thoughts and words....
You guys just keep winning and enjoying your bikes and I will be a happy bunny.
As regards the crash itself, it won't dent my confidence as it was purely a "one off" and you can't do a thing about that. I will still descend as I always have and put this hiccup to the back of my mind...
